SCDC Releases for Georgetown Cases

No SCDC prison appears within Georgetown County in the official 21-institution directory. A person sentenced on a Georgetown case can leave GCDC for an SCDC institution elsewhere in South Carolina. That event ends county-jail custody but continues incarceration. The correct first check depends on whether the question concerns that transfer, a future date, or a completed prison release.

The SCDC Released Inmate Search is the official completed-release route. It requires a start and end date, a county selection, and offers a sex-offender filter. Its county field must not be described as a Georgetown jail feed or assigned a meaning the returned record does not define. It lists SCDC releases, not every bond or time-served departure from GCDC.

Confirm an SCDC Release

A careful check uses state tools in a fixed order:

1. Search the released-list tool with a bounded date range and Georgetown selected.
2. Use the current Incarcerated Inmate Search to test whether the person remains in state prison.
3. Search SCDPPPS when parole, probation, or community supervision may remain active.
4. Read the Georgetown court docket for sentencing or later orders.

Current SCDC Search Limits

The current locator accepts SCDC ID, SID, first name, last name, and phonetic matching. The detailed record can show a photo and picture date, admission data, sentence type, projected release date, projected parole eligibility, and offense information. Results concern people currently sentenced to and incarcerated at SCDC. A fully discharged person may no longer appear.

SCDC Projected Release Records

SCDC defines Projected Release Date as the date it expects the incarcerated terms to end if the present rate of work, education, and good-time credit continues. Misconduct, lost credit, sentence correction, jail credit, new orders, consecutive terms, or detainers can change it. Projected Parole Eligibility is a different field. Eligibility or a scheduled hearing is not physical release.

South Carolina's 85-percent floor applies to defined no-parole offenses, not every sentence. Other eligible prisoners may receive statutory good-conduct, work, or education credits subject to exclusions and forfeiture. County jail credits also follow different law. Never turn a sentence into a promised date with simple arithmetic. Use the state record and request the computation for a dispute. Request an SCDC Discharge File

The SCDC legal information page accepts written FOIA requests. Ask for the admission date, release or discharge date, release type, destination, sentence and time-credit computation, supervision referral, and any releasable intake photograph. Include full identifying details and request an estimate before fees exceed a chosen amount.

Posted charges include $0.10 per black-and-white page, $0.25 per color page, and $18.95 per hour for search, retrieval, or redaction, subject to the lowest-qualified-employee rule and possible payment or deposit. No verified release-file retention period was found. Ask the records manager instead of assuming an archive duration.

Supervision After SCDC Release

Parole means conditional release under Board authority with supervision continuing. Probation is a court-ordered community sentence and does not always follow prison. The SCDPPPS offender search accepts permitted combinations of name, SID, year of birth, and county. Its results represent the previous day.

A current DPPPS result supports active supervision, while no result does not disprove a past SCDC release. People may complete supervision and disappear from the active tool. A favorable parole ruling is also not proof of physical exit. Confirm the actual custody change with SCDC, VINE, and the parole order.

Georgetown Transfer Versus Discharge

A GCDC timestamp followed by a current SCDC result describes a transfer between custodians. A released-list match describes departure from state prison. A DPPPS record can then show continued community supervision. Those records answer different points in the same sequence: arrest, county booking, transfer, prison admission, discharge, supervision, and eventual completion.

When the path is uncertain, keep each claim narrow. The Sheriff can confirm its own departure. SCDC can confirm state custody and discharge. DPPPS can confirm active supervision. The court can explain the sentence, and an official records request can supply the underlying document.

Begin a completed state-prison check with a bounded date range in the SCDC Released Inmate Search. Select Georgetown, but do not assume the county field means place of confinement, conviction, residence, or destination unless the returned state record defines it. No SCDC institution was identified within Georgetown County. The tool is statewide, and a Georgetown case can lead to confinement at an institution elsewhere in South Carolina.

If the former prisoner does not appear in the current incarcerated search, that absence is consistent with discharge but does not prove it. When parole is involved, use the SCDPPPS hearing search and transcribe its exact result. Schedules are generally searchable about 30 days before a hearing and can change. South Carolina Code Section 24-21-650 ties release to a parole order and acceptance, while processing and other holds may remain. A later DPPPS supervision match, paired with an actual SCDC release date, gives a stronger sequence than the hearing result alone.

A no-parole offense has a specific statutory meaning. Sections 24-13-100 and 24-13-150 establish the qualifying offense framework and the 85 percent floor. That floor is not a rule for every Georgetown sentence. Other eligible SCDC prisoners can receive good-conduct, productive-duty, and education credits under Sections 24-13-210 and 24-13-230, subject to exclusions, caps, forfeiture, and restoration. Only SCDC's calculation accounts for all controlling terms.

Another hold can change the destination without changing the fact that SCDC custody ended. A detainer may route the person to a county, federal, or immigration authority. For a durable conclusion, request the admission and discharge dates, release type, destination, computation summary, supervision referral, and releasable photo from SCDC. Preserve the state search criteria and retrieval date.
